Day 18: Friday 25th April 2025 | Siem Reap – Floating Village (B, L, D)

Today, we embark on a captivating journey to Kampong Pluk Floating Village, situated about 20 km southeast of Siem Reap. Our private car and guide will take us on a one-hour drive to the village’s dock, where a boatman awaits to navigate us along a narrow stream to this unique community. In the dry season, the road is accessible, allowing for travel by car or motorbike directly to the village.

Kampong Pluk is home to over 3,000 Khmer residents, living in stilted houses made of wood and bamboo, towering 6 to 7 meters above the ground. During the dry season, these structures resemble skyscrapers as the lake recedes. Conversely, in the wet season, the water level rises, submerging the stilts and prompting villagers to relocate temporarily to the lake’s surface.

The villagers’ livelihoods revolve around fishing and producing various fish products such as fish paste and dried prawns. Our visit to the village will offer insights into these activities, and we’ll have the chance to interact with local children attending a private English class. We’ll also visit Buddhist Island to admire the Buddha paintings and take a mini boat ride through the flooded mangrove forest, a habitat for diverse wildlife.

Lunch will be enjoyed with locals in Prei Monti Village, providing a moment to relax and savor the flavors of the region. Post-lunch, we’ll explore the neighboring villages on foot, witnessing daily life with buffaloes, vegetable plantations, and children returning from school. We might even spot an old man skillfully climbing a palm tree.

Our day concludes as we return to the hotel in the afternoon.
