Day 1 – Welcome to Japan (D)

Your journey begins in Tokyo — a city where ancient tradition and modern innovation exist side by side.

Upon arrival, you’ll be met at the airport by our local driver and transferred to our hotel, the centrally located Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo in Shinjuku. Take some time to settle in, freshen up, or simply relax after your flight.

In the early evening, we’ll gather for our first group experience: a warm welcome dinner at TOFURO Ginza, just across the street from the hotel. This elegant restaurant features traditional architecture and a menu focused on classic Japanese flavours — the perfect introduction to local cuisine.

Enjoy a relaxed evening as you meet your fellow travellers and your host, and toast to the start of this culturally rich and art-filled adventure.

Day 2 – Culture & Craft in Tokyo (B, L)

Today we dive into Tokyo’s rich cultural heritage — exploring iconic landmarks, peaceful shrines, and learning the art of sushi-making firsthand.

We begin at Meiji Shrine, a tranquil Shinto sanctuary nestled in a forested pocket of the city. After a peaceful stroll through the towering torii gates, we’ll continue to the Imperial Palace East Gardens, where traditional landscaping and Edo-period architecture offer a glimpse into Japan’s imperial past.

For lunch, we step into the world of Japanese culinary craftsmanship during a private sushi-making class. Guided by a skilled chef, you’ll prepare several varieties of sushi using traditional techniques, then sit down to enjoy your creations together.

The afternoon is yours to relax or explore at your own pace. Return to the hotel, wander through nearby Shinjuku shops, or rest up for tomorrow’s full day of discovery.

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch included
Accommodation: Tokyo – Keio Plaza Hotel

Day 3 – Tradition & Trend: Tokyo’s Many Faces (B, L)

Today is a celebration of contrasts — from centuries-old rituals to the high-energy pulse of modern Tokyo.

We begin at the vibrant Tsukiji Outer Market, where locals gather to shop for fresh seafood, produce, and handmade Japanese snacks. There’s time to explore, taste, and soak up the atmosphere before we continue into the stylish neighbourhoods of Harajuku and Shibuya — Tokyo’s centres of fashion and youth culture.

After lunch at a local restaurant, we shift gears with a traditional tea ceremony and kimono experience. Dressed in beautifully styled kimono, you’ll learn about the graceful rituals of Japanese tea preparation and enjoy a moment of stillness in an authentic setting.

Later, we visit Asakusa’s Sensoji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest and most iconic. Stroll down Nakamise Street, lined with colourful stalls selling local crafts and street food.

This evening, return to the hotel and enjoy free time — whether that’s dinner out, shopping in Shinjuku, or simply a quiet evening to unwind.

Day 4 – Mt. Fuji, Kimono Art & Arrival in Hakone (B, L)

This morning, we leave Tokyo behind and head into Japan’s scenic heartland.

Our first stop is Mt. Fuji’s 5th Station, where—weather permitting—you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Japan’s most iconic peak. We then continue to Lake Kawaguchi for a peaceful scenic cruise, offering incredible perspectives of the mountain and surrounding landscape.

After lunch, we visit the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum, an inspiring gallery set within tranquil gardens, dedicated to the artist’s extraordinary kimono creations. His bold use of colour and intricate textile techniques tell a story that blends tradition with imagination.

Later in the day, we travel on to Hakone, where we check in to the elegant Hyatt Regency Hakone Resort & Spa. Surrounded by natural beauty, this stylish mountain retreat is the perfect place to unwind.

Dinner is at your leisure this evening — enjoy a relaxed meal at the hotel, or explore one of the nearby local restaurants.

Day 5 – Sculpture, Views & Free Time in Hakone (B, L)

Today we explore Hakone’s natural beauty and creative spirit with a half-day guided tour.

We begin with a visit to the renowned Hakone Open-Air Museum, where contemporary sculptures by Japanese and international artists are set against a dramatic backdrop of mountains and gardens. Stroll through the expansive grounds and admire pieces by Henry Moore, Taro Okamoto, and Picasso, blending art and landscape in one of Japan’s most unique cultural spaces.

Next, we board the Hakone Ropeway for a roundtrip journey offering sweeping views of the volcanic Owakudani Valley and, on clear days, glimpses of Mt. Fuji. This area is famous for its geothermal activity — you may even spot the iconic black eggs cooked in the natural hot springs!

After a relaxing lunch at a local restaurant, we return to the Hyatt Regency Hakone, where the afternoon is yours to spend at leisure. Book a spa treatment, unwind in the lounge with a tea or wine, or simply enjoy the serene mountain surroundings.

Dinner tonight is open for you to enjoy at your own pace.

Day 6 – Bullet Train to Kyoto & Local Nightlife Experience (B, D)

This morning, we say goodbye to the mountains and head to the station for a smooth and scenic ride on Japan’s iconic Shinkansen bullet train. Travelling in comfort with reserved Green Class seats, we journey west to Kyoto — Japan’s former imperial capital and a city filled with history, elegance, and charm.

On arrival, we’re met at the station and transferred to our hotel to check in and freshen up. Enjoy a few hours to relax or explore the local area before we come together again for a fun and authentic taste of Kyoto nightlife.

This evening, we join a bar-hopping experience led by a local guide, visiting three traditional izakayas and sampling a range of local dishes and drinks. It’s a casual, social way to explore Kyoto’s backstreets and food scene — and a great opportunity to bond with the group.

After the experience, you’ll be transferred back to the hotel for a restful night.

Day 7 – Golden Temples & Sacred Trails of Kyoto (B, L)

Today we explore Kyoto’s most iconic landmarks — a city where centuries-old traditions are beautifully preserved.

We begin at the stunning Kinkaku-ji, also known as the Golden Pavilion. Covered in brilliant gold leaf and reflected in its surrounding pond, this Zen Buddhist temple is one of Japan’s most photographed sites. After time to wander the peaceful gardens, we continue on to the Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that wind up the forested hillside. Walk through this unforgettable path and learn about the spiritual significance of Inari, the Shinto god of rice and prosperity.

Following lunch at a local restaurant, we visit the Kiyomizu-dera Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site perched above the city. Its iconic wooden stage offers panoramic views, and the temple grounds are filled with cultural and historical treasures.

This evening is yours to enjoy at leisure. You might choose to relax at the hotel, explore Kyoto’s Gion district, or dine at one of the city’s acclaimed restaurants.

Day 8 – Bamboo Groves & River Views in Arashiyama (B, L)

Today we explore the peaceful and scenic district of Arashiyama, on the western edge of Kyoto — a place known for its natural beauty and timeless charm.

We begin at Jojakko-ji Temple, a tranquil hillside retreat known for its moss-covered steps and sweeping views over Kyoto. Then it’s on to one of Japan’s most iconic sights — the Sagano Bamboo Grove. Walk beneath towering bamboo stalks as the light filters through and the grove sways gently around you — a moment that feels worlds away from the city.

Next, we visit Tenryu-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with exquisite Zen gardens that date back to the 14th century. After exploring the grounds, we board a traditional yakatabune boat for a short scenic cruise along the Hozugawa River, passing under the famous Togetsukyo Bridge.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Kyoto in the early afternoon. The rest of the day is yours to relax or explore — perhaps a stroll through Gion, a visit to a local gallery, or time to journal with a view.

Upon arrival, we visit the exquisite Ritsurin Garden — one of Japan’s most beautifully preserved Edo-period gardens. Stroll among carefully landscaped paths, stone bridges, and serene ponds, all framed by lush green hills. It’s a peaceful and refined highlight of the trip.

After time to explore, we return by train to Okayama in the late afternoon and check in to the ANA Crowne Plaza Okayama, located conveniently near the station. The evening is at leisure — enjoy dinner at your hotel or explore nearby local dining options.

Meals: Breakfast included

Day 10 – Art Immersion on Naoshima Island (B, L)

Today is a highlight of the journey as we explore Naoshima, Japan’s world-renowned art island.

After breakfast, we’re transferred to Uno Port, where we board a ferry to Naoshima — famous for its blend of contemporary art, striking architecture, and peaceful coastal scenery. Upon arrival at Miyanoura Port, we’re greeted by two of the island’s most iconic sights: Yayoi Kusama’s Red Pumpkin and the sleek, modern Marine Station designed by SANAA.

With a private guide leading the way, we visit Benesse House Museum, where world-class artworks are integrated into the building’s minimalist spaces and the surrounding natural landscape. We’ll also see Kusama’s famous Yellow Pumpkin, along with installations from the Art House Project, which transforms abandoned homes into immersive art spaces.

Enjoy a relaxed lunch at Café Salon Nakaoku, known for its locally inspired menu and artistic setting.

In the late afternoon, we return by ferry to Uno Port and transfer back to Okayama for a restful evening.

After breakfast, we return to Uno Port and take a short ferry to Teshima Island. On arrival, we switch to electric-assisted bicycles for a relaxed and enjoyable way to explore the island’s winding coastal roads and forested trails.

Our first stop is the architectural marvel Teshima Art Museum — a serene, open-air dome that blends natural elements with minimalism to stunning effect. We continue to several other thought-provoking sites, including La Forêt des Murmures by Christian Boltanski, the Needle Factory, and Les Archives du Cœur.

Upon arrival, we’re met by our local guide and set off on a half-day city tour. We begin at the striking Osaka Castle, one of Japan’s most iconic historical landmarks, surrounded by stone walls and cherry-tree-lined moats.

Next, we visit the Osaka Museum of Housing and Living, where life-sized recreations and detailed models bring the Edo-era streets of Osaka to life. It’s a fascinating insight into how people lived, worked, and thrived in centuries past.

We enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, sampling the flavours of Osaka — a city known for its casual and flavourful street food culture.
