Thimphu

2 Nights Thimphu

Day 1: Arrivals, Paro to Thimphu

Welcome to Bhutan! Soar through the skies on a journey to Bhutan and land at the International Paro Airport which, upon arrival, you will be greeted by our private driver and Bhutanese tour guide. We will be escorted to our luxury accommodation in Thimphu, a drive that will take approximately 1.5 hours and is very scenic. We will explore the city on foot and you’ll have the opportunity to purchase traditional garments and unique handicrafts locals make as souvenirs. The remainder of the day can be spent at your leisure before our welcome dinner.

Altitude 2400m. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 2: Thimphu

The bustling small city is the primary centre of religion, commerce and government within the country. Thimphu, being the most modern city, possesses a variety of nightclubs, internet cafes, restaurants and shopping centres. It is also a city which operates without traffic lights – a unique distinction from every other city on the planet.. you can visit the School of Arts, Museums, weekend markets, live archery (Bhutan’s National Sport) and the Buddha Dordenma viewpoint, located at the top of a hill in Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park overlooking the south entry into Thimphu valley. We’ll stay overnight at luxury accommodation in Thimphu.

Punakha

2 Nights Punakha

Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha (3 Hrs)

The day will start with a lovely scenic drive from Thimphu to Punakha across Dochula pass which takes about three hours. Dochula pass: Being a popular location, the Dochula Pass offers a breath-taking panoramic 180 degree spectacle overseeing the Himalayan mountain ranges, which is especially clear and scenic in winter during the day with snowy mountains forming a magical backdrop to the tranquil scenery of the 108 Chortens decorating the mountain path.

We Visit Punakha Dzong: Built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the Dzong was named Druk Pungthang Dechen Phodrang (Palace of Great Happiness). The Dzong sits in between the intercepting point of the two rivers, Mochu and Phochu, making it one of the most eye-catching & camera-ready Dzongs in Bhutan. You will have the option of  enjoying  a river rafting trip through Phochu and Mochu if you would like.

We will also visit Punakha Suspension Bridge, known to be one of the lengthiest suspension bridges in Bhutan. This bridge in particular connects the Dzong to Samdingkha, Shengana and Wangkha, the villages on the opposing bank of Po Chhu River. Accessing the bridge starting from the Dzong will require one to hike past the the cremation ground as well as the King’s Palace.

Day 4: Punakha Halt

Today there is free time for you to enjoy this beautiful area. Punakha, commonly nicknamed as the second capital, has the greatest Dzongs of Bhutan. Punakha is most certainly the ideal area to manifest your inner love for nature, absorb the marvellous spectacles of the Himalayas and observe the relaxing sounds of the Po Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, which envelopes the serene allure of this beautiful valley. Later, optional Hike to Khamsum Yulay Namgyal Chorten,

Altitude 1350m, overnight in Punakha.

Dochula pass

A stunning 180-degree panoramic view of the great Himalayan mountain ranges. The view is especially scenic and very clear on winter days with snowcapped mountains forming a majestic backdrop to the tranquility.

Visit Punakha Dzong

The Dzong stands in between the meeting point of two rivers, Phochu and Mochu making it one of the most photogenic Dzongs in Bhutan.

Visit Punakha Suspension Bridge

Punakha suspension bridge connects the dzong with the village and stretches around 170 meters, making it one of the longest bridges of its kind in Bhutan. It is draped with Buddhist prayer flags and provides a thrilling view of the gushing river and stoic mountains.

Paro

2 Nights Paro

Day 5 : Punakha to Paro – 4.5 hrs

On our journey towards Paro, we can retrace the journey passing over Dochula, right up until Chuzom and further on to Paro. This stretch of travel will replenish your mind, granting you a second opportunity to appreciate the view of the Himalaya’s amazing snowcapped mountain from Dochula.

En-route we visit Chimi Lhakhang, Temple of fertility, Visit 17th century Paro Dzong, also known as ‘Fortress on a Heap of Jewels’. In regards to Bhutanese architecture, It is also considered one of the best. Visit Ta Dzong unique national museum and take a hike through the amazing villages of Mesina.

Explore the tiny town of Paro, Partake in the national sport, Archery and try dressing in the National dress of Bhutan, the Gho / Kira.

Tonight and for the remainder of the trip, we will be staying in The Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary, at an altitude 2200m. This luxury 5 star hotel is spa inclusive and includes yoga and meditation classes and well as traditional Bhutanese therapies.

Day 6 : Paro

This scenic area in the kingdom is dressed in arable rice fields which also has a pristine, crystalline river roaming down the valley. Being a luxury tourist location, Paro has sprawling crafts shops for souvenirs and many historical sites, including the world-famous Taktsang.

Today we Trek to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger Nest Temple): Bhutan’s most emblematic landmark and a major Buddhist zone within our world. “The Tiger’s Nest” is what the name Taktsang translates to. Clinging laterally to a cliff about 900 metres above a valley, This temple is a cherished site & is considered one of the holiest within Bhutan, sitting at an altitude of 7000m – 10000m. A truly amazing experience. The trek will take around 3- 4 hours and once we arrive we can go inside and explore this amazing temple.

Later we visit a local village to meet locals and learn about the bhutanese lifestyle. There is an optional hot stone bath here. Later we head out for our Farewell dinner.

Overnight in Paro, altitude 2,200m

Day 7: Departures

Our driver will take you to Paro International Airport to board your flight home. Take your spiritual lessons home with you and reflect on the cultural experience of a lifetime. Until next time…

Trek to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger Nest Temple):

Bhutan’s most iconic landmark and a major Buddhist site in the world. The name Taktsang translates to “The Tiger’s Nest”. The temple is one of the holiest sites in Bhutan which clings impossibly to a sheer cliff face 900 meters above the valley, altitude 7000m – 10000m.
